Opportunistic Bits in Short-Packet Communications: A Finite Blocklength Perspective

In this paper, the concept of opportunistic bits (OBs) is developed in short-packet communications and investigated from a finite blocklength perspective. OB-based transmission, data unit packet divided into two parts: OBs conventional (CBs). The are not physically transmitted but used to indicate index time slot (TS) when containing CBs transmitted. loading bulk packets multiple TSs can be modelled as Repeated Balls-into-Bins process with multi-queue storage. If large enough, certain combination(s) will appear, which leaves TS(s) empty hence reduces TS load efficiency. To evaluate transmission performance, we formulate its maximal payload rate With aid these formulations, energy gain, goodput, latency derived obtained analytical forms. For achieving further insights, illustrative numerical results on resource utilisation efficiency performance only substantiate advantages over also provide useful tools specifications for design massive communications.
